Practice & Multiple Meet Announcements

This week we have several important updates this week regarding upcoming meets, hotel blocks, and practices.  Please pay careful attention.

PRACTICE:  Practice is updated on the team calendar.  Please note that there will be varying practices depending on the athletes age.  Next weeks schedule for practice is as follows:

JUNE 13 MEET INFO:  We have added a local meet for Saturday, June 13th. This meet is located at Guerin Catholic High School and the meet information is located on the calendar link here: JUNE 13 MEET INFO  The cost is $7 per event and is due when you sign up.  Sign up will begin on Monday.  Deadline to enter & pay is Saturday, June 6 at practice.

USATF STATE MEET INFO (June 19-20):  The details of the meet schedule are located on the calendar link here: STATE MEET INFO. The cost of the meet is included in the full membership. If you are new to the Indiana Storm, you will need to provide a copy of your athletes birth certificate in order to compete in this meet.  Please submit a copy or email a copy to indystormtrack@gmail.com by Monday, June 8.  Sign up for the meet will begin at practice on Monday.  Even though the cost of the meet is included in the full membership, it is necessary to fill out the sign up sheet to indicate you plan on competing.

USATF YOUTH CHAMPIONSHIP (July 2-5):  There are a few more rooms available for the USATF Youth National Championship Meet.  The details of the meet schedule are here: SCHEDULE.   If you have any questions about what events your child might run, please see Coach Michael.  You must book your room by June 8th. The rooms are $99/night and the hotel does serve breakfast.  All rooms have a queen bed and a sofa pull out sleeper.  See your team email for hotel info.

 

USATF REGIONAL MEET (July 11-12):  The hotel block for the Regional Meet is now open. Some things to consider for this meet are the meet schedule and the need to cancel your reservation if your athlete does not qualify for the meet.  The hotel block is open to be booked for July 10-12 if needed.  The schedule for the meet is located on the calendar link here: REGIONAL MEET INFO.  The start time is early on both days.  You must book your room by June 18th. The rooms are $99/night and the hotel does serve breakfast.  This is the exact same hotel as Youth Championships.  The link to book the hotel is different and is in the most recent team email.

 

USATF JUNIOR OLYMPICS:  One last section of information is the Junior Olympic Meet Info.  We are providing this for those who would like to start looking into travel arrangements.  Again, for this meet the team will have a hotel block and we will provide that information in late June.  The meet schedule is much like the Youth Championship schedule and can be found here:  JO MEET INFO.

CONGRATULATIONS!!

We have some exciting news to share with you about one our Indiana Storm athletes!

This weekend Lynna Irby had the opportunity to compete at the Golden South Classic Track Meet in Orlando, Florida. The Golden South Classic is an international, elite track and field meet for high school students. The event has been named one of three meets in the prestigious adidas® Golden Stripes series, which means winners in the men’s and women’s mile and 100-meter races will be invited to compete in the adidas® Dream Mile and Dream 100, where the top high school sprinters and milers from around the country will gather in New York City on June 13, 2015 for a race to determine the nation’s fastest. Lynna competed in the 100m. Lynna’s time in the finals of 11.47 is her personal best and she finished 3rd overall.  The Indiana Storm Coaches, Athletes, and Parents are very proud of Lynna’s accomplishment!  Please be sure to congratulate Lynna via our Instagram page! Go Storm!

MAY 30th MEET INFO AND OTHER UPDATES

We hope you are enjoying your holiday weekend!  Below are some announcements about the upcoming meet and practices.

SIGN-UP FOR MAY 30th  MEET:  Sign-up for the May 30th meet at Guerin Catholic High School will close on Monday.  Monday is the LAST day to sign -up and pay. Entry is $7 per event.  Please pay at the time of sign-up.  If you are unable to make it to practice on Monday and have not yet signed up please get in contact with Coach Michael before Monday.

MAY 30th MEET INFO:  The meet information is available in the link on the calendar.  We would like athletes to be at the track at 8am.  If your athlete is not running the 100m, you can check with Coach Michael at practice Monday or Wednesday for the arrival time for your athlete.  The address for the meet location is 15300 Gray Road, Noblesville, IN 46062.

PRACTICE:  Practice is Monday at Ben Davis from 11am-1pm and Wednesday at Northview from 6:30pm-8:30pm.  The calendar is updated for next week.

STORM APPAREL FOR SALE:  There is a limited quantity of Indiana Storm shirts available for purchase.  We have blue short sleeve shirts for $15, yellow long sleeve shirts for $10, and a few cotton short sleeve shirts for $5.  We will do our best to get these to practice on Monday if you are interested in purchasing.

HOTEL DEADLINES AND MEET RESULTS

Congratulations to all the athletes who participated in the meet this past weekend!!  Meet results can be found on the results page on the website or by clicking here: RESULTS.  Please email us any pictures you have to be included throughout the season on our website.

PRACTICE:  Practice is Wednesday (Northview) and Saturday (Ben Davis) this week.

MAY 30 MEET INFO:  Wednesday and Saturday are the sign up days for the May 30th Meet.  This meet is located at Guerin Catholic High School and the meet information is located on the calendar link here: MAY 30 MEET INFO  The cost is $7 per event and is due when you sign up.  Deadline to enter is Saturday at practice.

HOTEL DEADLINES:  You have until tomorrow at 4pm to book your room for our June 19-20 State meet. There are only 7 rooms left! Rooms are on a first-come basis. The details of the meet schedule are not available yet, however this meet does begin on the afternoon/evening of Friday, June 19. The rooms are $99/night and the hotel does serve breakfast. See team email for hotel info.

 

In addition, we have a few more rooms available for the USATF Youth National Championship Meet.  The details of the meet schedule are here: SCHEDULE.  You can check the schedule and determine the dates when you are most likely to need a room.  This meet is much larger than the state meet and the schedule is very different.  If you have any questions about what events your child might run, please see Coach Michael.  You must book your room by June 8th.  Again, we have a limited number of rooms available in our team block.  Please only book a room if you intend on using it.  The rooms are $99/night and the hotel does serve breakfast.  All rooms have a queen bed and a sofa pull out sleeper.  See team email for hotel info.

 

COLUMBUS MEET INFO

COLUMBUS TRACK MEET INFO:  The details of the meet schedule are here: COLUMBUS MEET There is a link in the calendar that includes meet start time and event information. We will have a Caravan from the hotel below that will leave for the track at 7:30am on Sunday morning.  If you are traveling to the track on your own, please plan to arrive no later than 8am. The physical address for the track is: 2450 Fred Taylor Dr., Columbus, OH 43210.

Storm Updates

Good Afternoon!  Please be sure to read all of the following updates.

MAY 2 MEET INFO:  There is a caravan that you are welcome to follow for this meet.  The caravan will leave from the Pilot Gas station at Exit 109 on I-74 at 7:30am.  If you do not leave with the caravan, please plan to arrive at the Taft High School Track no later than 9am.  For those who are new to track the meet will last most of the day.  Please bring healthy snacks and plenty of water for your athlete.  There are bleachers at this facility and you may also bring an umbrella in case of rain.  There is a $5.00 admission charge for all spectators over the age of 6.  For the track address and detailed meet information visit the following link: MAY 2 MEET

PRACTICE & UPDATES:  We have scheduled next weeks practices on the calendar at the following link: CALENDAR. Practice will be at Northview Wednesday at 6:30pm and Saturday at 4pm.

MAY 17 MEET INFO:  We will start signing up for Columbus meet on Sunday, May 17th next week at practice. We do not have a team hotel block for this meet.  If you are intending on going to this meet and wish to stay over on Saturday night, you will want to reserve a room soon.  I have created a link to hotels and you can access it here: COLUMBUS HOTELS.  The track is not far form these.  More information on the meet itself can be found in the calendar link of our team calendar.

Updates for Practice and Upcoming Meet Info

Please be sure to read all of the following updates.  There are a couple practice changes and lots of meet info.  Sorry for the lengthy email!

PRACTICE CHANGES & UPDATES:  We are moving a practice this weekend to Sunday, April 26 from 5-7pm.  The weather is expected to be a little more comfortable for our athletes on Sunday.  With only a couple more practices until our first meet we want to be sure to make the most of our time.  As a result of this change, we will cancel our Monday practice and only practice on Wednesday.  Wednesday, April 29 practice is 6:30pm to 8pm at Ben Davis High School.  The schedule for Indiana Storm practices and meets is on our calendar.  The calendar is on the website at the following link: CALENDAR There may additional meets added and practices will be updated throughout the season.

Outdoor Kick-Off Party and Introduction to Track Camp

March 22 Kick-off Party: The Outdoor Season Kick-Off Party and Registration will be March 22nd from 2-5pm at McAlister’s Deli located at 86th & Michigan Road. The registration costs are below.  You can find all registration forms on our website on the HOW TO JOIN tab.  Please feel free to print & complete these forms to bring with you to registration.
Costs for Summer Season
New Member:$325 per athlete. Cost includes the practice sessions, athletes uniform, USATF membership card, and meet fees for the Columbus Track Classic Meet, USATF State Meet, USATF Regional Meet, and the USATF Junior Olympic Meet. If you are a new member to the Indiana Storm Track Club we will also need a copy of your athletes birth certificate.
Returning Member: $250 per athlete. Cost includes the practice sessions, athletes uniform, USATF membership card, and meet fees for the Columbus Track Classic Meet, USATF State Meet, USATF Regional Meet, and the USATF Junior Olympic Meet.
Associate Member: $175 per athlete. This cost is for all athletes not competing in High School track. Cost covers practice sessions only.
High School Member: $160 per High School Athlete. This cost includes the practice sessions that will begin after the High School athletes season end. Also included in the costs are the athletes uniform, USATF Membership Card, and meet fees for USATF State, USATF Regional Meet, and the USATF Junior Olympic Meet. If you are new to the Indiana Storm Track Club we will also need a copy of the athletes birth certificate.

 

Sports by Mike Introduction Track Camp: This year Coach Michael is offering an Introduction to Track Camp. Sports by Mike is run by Michael Vinson, Ben Davis High School Sprint Coach for the track team and Head Coach of the Indiana Storm Track Club. Coach Vinson has experience coaching athletes in a variety of sports including baseball, basketball, and a specialty in coaching track. The Introduction to Track Camp will focus on: Coordination drills, speed drills, proper running form and technique, and abdominal exercises, all of which will help with speed and strength needed for a variety of sports. Ages 5-8 are welcome to attend. The cost is $75 per athlete and includes 4 practices and 1 meet.  If you have any questions, please contact Coach Michael at 317-698-6315.

Kick-off Party And Movie Outing

  • March 22 Kick-off Party:  Outdoor Season Kick-Off Party and Registration will be March 22nd from 2-5pm.  The location will be McAlister’s at 86th & Michigan.  The registration cost and forms will be sent in an email prior to the kick-off date.  Stay tuned for more details.
  • McFarland USA Movie Outing:  The movie McFarland USA is playing at Studio Movie Grill located at 86th & Michigan Rd. McFarland USA is a movie about a cross country coach in a small California town transforms a team of athletes into championship contenders. The Indiana Storm will go see this on March 1st.  The movie time is 3:45pm. Tickets for ages 11 & up are $7.50 per person. Ages 10 & under tickets are $6 per person.  Studio Movie Grill Theater ticket purchases can be made online to secure your seat choice for an additional fee.  The link to theater information and to purchase tickets is here: STUDIO MOVIE GRILL  The tickets for the Sunday March 1st show at 3:45pm are now available to purchase online. Please feel free to join us on March 1st for a fun team outing.

Jan 28 Updates

Below is some important information for all athletes and parents:

  • Purdue Meet Jan. 24: Congratulations to all our athletes that participated at the Purdue meet!  Meet results can be found at this link: MEET RESULTS
  • Jan 31 High School Meet: There will be a High School Meet at University of Indianapolis on January 31st.  If your athlete would like to participate the cost is $20 and the deadline to enter is TODAY.  Contact Coach Michael to enter and pay.  The meet Information and schedule is here: MEET INFO If you are participating in the meet you will need to arrive at 11:30 if you are running the 60m.
  • Practice Updates:  There will be NO PRACTICE SATURDAY JAN 31 or SATURDAY FEB 7. We have 3 remaining practices (Jan. 28, Feb.2, and Feb. 4). 
  • Dorothy Dawson Meet Feb.: The last meet of the season is Feb. 7 at the University of Illinois Armory.  The physical address is 505 E. Armory Avenue, Champaign, IL  61820.  Admission for spectators is $7.  The meet information and schedule of events is attached here: FEB 7 MEET INFO There is a sign up sheet going around at practice.  The last day to sign up is Monday at practice.  If you are unable to make practice you must contact coach Michael to enter the meet.

JAN 24th Meet Info & Other News

Good Afternoon!

Below is some important information for all athletes and parents:

  • Purdue Meet Jan. 24:  Any athlete that is attending the Purdue Meet on Saturday will need to arrive by 8am.  The physical address to the track is 800 West Stadium Avenue, West Lafayette, IN 47906.  If you still wish to participate in this meet, today is the last day for entryand you must contact Coach Michael at 317-698-6315.  The order of events can be found at the following link: Event Info. Entry is $5 per spectator.
  • Caravan to Meet:  There will be a Caravan that will meet at the Marathon Gas Station located at Exit 130 on I-65 in Zionsville.  The caravan will depart at 7am.
  • Parking for the Purdue Meet:  There are specific parking spaces available for the meet.  The Map for athlete drop off and parking is attached here: Map Please pay close attention to the meets designated parking as there are other events on campus this weekend.
  • Jan 31 High School Meet:  There will be a High School Meet at University of Indianapolis on January 31st.  If your athlete would like to participate the cost is $20 and the deadline to enter is Monday.  Contact Coach Michael to enter and pay.

MEET INFO

Below is some important information for all athletes and parents:

  • Depauw Meet Jan. 17:  Any athlete (mostly High School) that is attending the Depauw Meet on Saturday will need to arrive by 9:30am.  If you are not running the 55m, then you can must arrive no later than 10:30am.  The physical address is 100 West Hanna Street, Greencastle, IN 46135.  If you still wish to participate in this meet, today is the last day for entry and you must contact Coach Michael at 317-698-6315.
  • Purdue Meet Jan. 24:  Any athlete still wishing to participate in the Purdue Meet on Jan. 24th, the deadline has been extended to Monday January 19.  You must sign up by this date.  If you paid a full member fee at registration,m then this meet is covered by those fees.  If you are a training member then you will need to pay for the meet at practice by Monday.
  • Missing Spikes:  An athlete is missing their spikes from last nights practice.  Please check your bags to make sure the spikes were not mistakenly put in your belongings or picked up by accident.
  • NIFS Track Etiquette and Storm Conduct Expectations: Parents, please review with your athlete the importance of training in a positive environment and the behavior expected from our awesome athletes.  Below are the links to the Indiana Storm Code of Conduct and the NIFS track Etiquette, which can also be found on our Website  under the “HOW TO JOIN” tab.  Thank you in advance for your support!

Jan 24th Meet

Congratulations to all the athletes who ran the January 3rd meet.  We had several PR’s!  And we want to say “Thank You” to all the parents who braved the elements and got the athletes there safely!  

Below is important information regarding the meet on January 24th at Purdue University.  We will send out an additional email the week of the meet regarding arrival times and such.  

  • Sign-ups:  The sign-up sheet was circulated last night at practice and will also be around on Saturday at practice.  If you intend on participating in the meet at Purdue, please be sure to sign-up on Saturday.  If you miss practice and want to run, you must notify Coach Michael by Saturday at 4pm.

Jan 3 Meet

Good Afternoon!  Below is some important information regarding the meet in January 3rd  at Trine University.

  • Order of Events: The order of events can be found at the following link:   3 Schedule
  • Caravan:We will have a Caravan that will leave from the McDonald’s in Fishers at 8907 East 116th St. (Just off I-69).  The caravan will leave at 9:15am.
  • Track Information:For those not following the caravan, you will need to be at the track at 11:30am to have time to warm up.  The track is located behind the Shive Football Field at Trine University.  The physical address is 1 University Ave., Angola, IN 46703.
  • Cost: There is a $5 spectator fee to enter.  Please be sure to bring cash for this.
  • Snacks: For those who are new to track, be sure to pack water & nutritious snacks for your athlete as the day can get long.
